TOPIC: The Prodigy record contract

The Prodigy record contract 6 years, 5 months ago #11661

Liam wasn't very happy with the way XL Recordings promoted 'Spitfire' but The Prodigy are still with XL. For how much longer who knows? Liam is launching his own record label next year. I would imagine that when the contract with XL ends The Prodigy will move to Liam's label. The contract with XL will be to produce a certain number of albums so when that number is reached that's the end unless it is re-negotiated.

As for XL not being the best label in the world, who is?

Are you signed to them like?

Вµ-Ziq aka Mike Paradinas had to issue court papers to get them to release his 'Bluff Limbo' album. Doesn't sound like a thing the best label in the world would do.

"A second album Bluff Limbo was scheduled to be released in mid-1994, though only 1000 copies were released. (It was re-issued by Rephlex in 1996 after Paradinas served papers on the label.)"

Unless the artist releases the music themselves they will always have to deal with record labels which are a business. By the way, I'm not saying XL Recordings are the best label in the world but they seem ok compared to some.

Maybe one of these days, haha

I have Bluff Limbo, it was probably some huge mess up or something. To be honest not much is Rephlex's fault. They nearly always have to work around Warp. For example Richard D. James is not even allowed to use his own artist name of "Aphex Twin" on his own label due to Warp.
