Hi all. Long-time fan of Prodigy here, first visit to this site. I came across this song in my giant pile of old electronic music today that I've never heard before, and it sounds like a total ripoff of Voodoo People.. It's called "No more fucking rock 'n' roll" by Asys. Has anyone ever heard this? Agree? I'll try to attach the mp3 file so you can determine for yourselves.
*edit* Ok the mp3 file is too large. I will include a link to the youtube version - this is slightly different than the mp3 I have, my version sounds even more similar to Prodigy, but I think it's enough to get the idea. There was even a pre-existing comment that this sounds like Voodoo people. If anyone can tell me how to post an mp3 or compress one easily I'm more than happy to attach the version I have as well.

That main riff definitely sounds like Voodoo People, but I wouldn't call that a ripoff. That's kind of like saying that a lot of The Prodigy's songs are ripoffs because some of the elements in them are sampled from other songs.

its like it but not a rip off! its sampled! just like the prodigy do with their tunes.... take worlds on fire for example... the main riff is taken directly from vamp - outlander! is that a rip off? no its using music to create your own music, wether its better or worse its not a rip off !!!

it basically has some elements off the main key elements ifrom voodoo people in it but i as above what do you call a rip off ?

I wouldnt use the term 'Rip-Off' It definitely has strong similarities, possibly sampled from but rip off is a bit unfair as somebody mentioned above, Liam (heavily) samples in alot of Prodge tunes.
If you are calling this tune a rip-off then you must also call Voodoo People itself a rip-off cos lets not forget where the main riff came from...

Sampling is a really distinct practice and art...copying a section of a song and using it in the same way musically isn't sampling in my eyes. Something has to be done with the clip to use it as an instrument itself, after slicing, chopping, editing and post processing with effects, and then used in a different musical way. Like sampling a bass line, and then after fucking it up with editing, using that as a drum kick or echoed sfx.

Taking a lead and using it again as a lead is a bit...lazy.

Good point with the Voodoo People sample though preston, that's a slightly lazy move on Liam's part, but at least it's isn't the exact same; he chopped up his own recording of it a bit, and worked it into a completely different (and new) genre altogether.

Yeah thats true. Obviously what Liam did is alot more creative as he took a simple riff from A Grunge/Rock tune, cut and edited it to make a distinctive lead riff in an Electronic/Dance tune.

Yeah...REALLY hope he doesn't go all rock with next album =[ But that's another thread altogether

His musical Influences are so broad its hard to guess what direction it will take. Cos of the recent reworks and current musical trends Alot of people are guessing Dubstep (which personally, would destroy me inside)
