anyone else think that since electronic music is the way forward for music that in say 50 years time the prodigy will be considered as innovative in their own genre as the Beatles were??

After 20+ years tearing it up i think they are already considered as pioneers of their genere! Some might say they are pioneers of their very own genere!

Think it was Q magazine who first posed that question when Jilted was released.

I think you can credit The Prodigy with helping make dance music credible. Nothing else from the early 90s compares to Experience technically. The beats were unique, other artists weren't anywhere near as technically gifted and delivered that wall of sound that The Prodigy did. I'd say when Jilted was released, it might have seemed that we were about to see serious dance music lift off as an 'adult' music style, almost like the 1970s concept albums, but it never really took off. And as The Prodigy moved over to the punk vibe with FOLT and Chemical Bros just disappeared up their soundscope asses, the movement towards grand electronic albums sort of fell off the rails.

I don't think I see enough demonstration of real musical ability to compete with the music legends of yesteryear to be honest. Not that the leading dance artists don't have the talent, but I think I've decided that electronic music just isn't organic enough to be a high enough vehicle of musical talent. Not that it's a bad thing of course...I wouldn't call putting SMBU on at full pelt and rocking out high art, but it's damn fun.

Then the other question to ask is what electronic music as a whole would look like had The Prodigy never made it. Would we have even have Breaks? What would D&B look like? Would Dubstep exist?

Yes...Liam uses breaks, as in they existed for him to use For many years too, obvious example would be the amen. As for dubstep, who knows, personally I don't it would exist, but seeing as how big it is now, many dubstep fan friends would rage at me for making a statement like that, so I'll keep the belief to myself

Oh yeah, but Experience raised the bar for how breaks could be used, I always thought Music Reach and Wind It Up were lightyears ahead of anything else (but I'll admit I was always a little bit biased )

Prodigy had nothing to do with the advent of Dubstep. Dubstep came from UK Garage and Reggae in the early 2000s. It didn't have wobbles and crazy drops like it does today. The crazy Dubstep that most people are familiar with is just Dubstep with D&B influences. The British jump-up scene (comprised of Doctor P and Flux Pavilion among others) were heavily influenced by jump-up D&B while the harder, North American Dubstep scene (Excision, Datsik, Skrillex, Bare among others) were influenced by Hip-hop, Metal and Hardcore D&B.
The Prodigy fit nowhere into this puzzle, I'm afraid, aside from the fact that I've heard a few of these guys (mostly the North Americans) credit The Prodigy as a favorite artist.

Your forgetting the pure influence, Liams use of big beat, and tracks like SMBU. None themselves are dubstep, but without the Prodigy, I don't think it (As we know it) would be around today.
Influence is the biggest one though, electronic music altogether would have gone in an entirely (not better or worse, but) different direction if Liam didn't do his thing. That's my view anyway

Heh nah but my point is that to say the prodigy had NOTHING to do with dubstep is a bit absurd, as it saying they invented it. Like every other electronic artist out at the time, they were influences, a piece of the puzzle. It's nothing special about them, as Liams influences also come from a vast array. It's a chain of musical life is all

I think the best thing to do would be for Prodigy to do a collaboration with Spor and Paul Mcartney.
