TOPIC: Order of the Albums' Songs

Order of the Albums' Songs 2 years, 11 months ago #46937

I often wonder what Prodigy had in their minds when they chose the order
of the songs for their albums. For example, 'Firestarter' and 'No Good' (two
massive hits) are near to the end of 'The Fat on the Land' and Music for the Jilted Generation' respectively (maybe in order to make these albums more equal and strong till the end ?).

What's your opinion?

Thanks.

Jilted flows beautifully and the Narcotic Suite at the end was just genius. However, Shoot Down and Fuel My Fire as ending tracks of an album? Epic fail.

As for beginnings to albums:

Experience: Jericho (good choice)
MFTJG: Intro & Break & Enter (Liam = God)
FOTL: Smack My Bitch Up (best track so a wise choice)
AONO: Spitfire (bangin', good choice)
IMD: Invaders Must Die (should have started with Omen Reprise, then TMTTH)

A lovely thank you to Mr. W 30, James Jupiter the 8th, Mrs. 303, Mr. 909, and especially Monsieur Akai 1100 (The Earthbound Crew)

no way, you cant start it with omen reprise. i personally think it makes sense to start the album with the title track, its a strong track as well.
omen reprise should come after omen on the album. but tmtth is a good choice for opening track. stand up is a good closing track as well.

I'd leave Stand Up last also, but Reprise is such a nice opener. A nice messed up filter sweep coming out of it, lot's of virus morphing into the ambulance siren from TMTTH. It would be epic.

I think my main complaint about FotL and IMD is that the tracks don't seem to fit together as nicely as Experience and MFTJG. They just seem like a bunch of random tracks thrown together. I mean, it doesn't matter how good each song is individually when it comes to listening to an album, if there's no flow or consistency, it's just not going to work. That's why if I ever feel like listening to a full album, I'll always go for Jilted or Experience even though my top singles from them don't come from either of those albums.

To be fair I prefer albums that don't have a track named after the title. It's lazy.

Agreed. I also don't like it when people use their names as an album title

I disagree in regard to IMD, the album is a very consistent album. Fat synth leads, messy bass and big beats are what the album is about, it has it's own sound that you can hear on almost all the tracks.
HOWEVER, I agree that FOTL was horrifically inconsistent...I guess Liam was optioning for different directions for the music, to see how each are received.

Hm, I disagree, a lot albums that have title songs leave them till later on, but I agree that IMD opening IMD was a good choice, it's the one track with a slow steady build up into a catchy lead, a good way for The Prod to come back.

Also, Omen reprise has to be after Omen, it's a reprise!

Jilted works better as an album, FOTL and IMD work for singles, Experience works good as an album after Jilted.
As for AONO...yeah.

Where would IMD fit in then? I think Worlds on fire fits great after the reprise cos it feels like the album is kicking off again.

IMD is the perfect start to the album. I can imagine Liam having great fun writing that tune. It's him being let lose, not worried writing it for vocals and free from worry of what it must sound like to fit on the album.

Every opening track on all the albums are brilliant.
