TOPIC: Beats

Beats 2 years, 9 months ago #49510

Hi, I still don't understand how Liam makes his beats...I posted earlier and someone told me to check out a youtube video but what I want to know is does he use a drum machine, or does he buy beat cd's, how exactly does he make them.

Heh that was me, the videos I recommended show where the beats come from and how they are used, in both cases sample slicing is the main technique.
Samples come from everywhere and anywhere, combined with heavy effects.

The videos show EXACTLY the sources of his samples and how they are sliced

Hey
liam uses samples from anything that influences him. He samples beats from old school hip hop, to Rock orientated drums, techno breakbeat, house and just about everything....when he samples, he uses his sampler to edit the beats and changes it around so that it fits the rhythm of the track.....the guy is the king of beats....the original sample may be completely different when finished as its probably changed with arrangement, pitch, effect etc....basically Liam is a Prodigy when it comes to writing dance music....the Roland W30 keyboard was his first sampler that he wrote the Experience on....then he used the Akai sampler and eventually progressed to Cubase computer editing tool, and in the last few years he uses "Reason" and "Ableton live" computer program tools....
