TOPIC: The Dead Weather...

The Dead Weather... 2 years, 10 months ago #49727

Before Warrior's Dance Festival, Zane Lowe held an interview with The Prodigy [http://www.zanelowe.com/video/interview/], the lads stated in this interview they'd be back in the studio soon and with the recent interview taking place in Poland, in which Liam outlines that he's begun work on some new material, it's looking pretty good. But one great thing that struck me about the interview with Zane, is that upon being questioned, both Liam and Keith stated that they were really into The Dead Weather, 'the dirt, the beats of it.'

I don't know who here's familiar with The Dead Weather, but I for one am a huge fan, I think both their records along with Them Crooked Vultures are probably the best records of the last ten years or so. Although the clip of TDW shown in this interview is of Die By The Drop, there are more electronic oriented songs on both albums, particularly Bone House, I Cut Like a Buffalo I'm Mad, Looking At The Invisible Man... So I suppose my question is; does this influence excite anyone else the way it does me? I for one think the dirt, grit and grime of TDW would feature excellently on a Prodigy album, and with some luck we could return to the darker times of old...

I bought Sea Of Cowards a while back and have to say I love it.
Sixties psychedelia mixed with seventies rock riffs really works for me.

If Liam will be influenced by their 'dirt' on the next Prodge album I'll be a happy bunny. Just hop the tracks will be slightly longer in length

I hope he is just 'influenced by', and not going to do that kind of stuff. Prodigy was always about being such a mix that it's it's own genre.

All true. We certainly don't want an album full of Serial Thrillas and Fuel My Fires do we? Or if you do you should probably go outside and have a quiet word with yourself. But I think if he took the most prominent sounds from TDW's stuff, the dirt, the darkness, even a lot of the synth sounds on their stuff's pretty impressive, then we should be in for something good. Dare I say it, better than IMD.

The Prodigy will be raining down the nastiest electro/rock/dubstep beats this time next year, quote me.

Hopefully without the rock bits though. Time for a true electronic album methinks, the rock crowd have piggybacked on an electronic act for long enough.

minus the dubstep too please, not liking the remix of thunder mainly cos original far outsrtipes it , as in 'major' dancin tune, real shame with its lack of live air play, Got a feeling if its going dirty its going dubfuckinstep but i hope not, sorry liam

The Dead Weather are a terrible band. I don't hear anything cutting edge from them. Just rehashed lightweight music done half baked.

I would be worried if they are seen as an influence, especially Keith as he rates Enter Shitkari

Done fully baked more likely

A lot of people here have said they would like a dirtier, darker album from the guys, Liam has said he wants this too next time. It probably will not be a Dead Weather sound alike album, I wouldn't want that either.

Guitars have been part of The Prodigy sound for over fifteen years now, rock influencing their masterpiece MFTJG, most people's favourite Prodge album.

The band moved on, why can't other people

I know what you're getting at Kev, but Liam's done the rock/dance thing now, owed it, now time to move out of his comfort zone and stick his Braintree fingers in some new musical pies. My dream is a techno/electro/D&B/dubstep type album, with his usual wizardry to turn them into an idiom of his own. That said, I would also burn down an orphanage to hear him do a musical piece using a full orchestra. Not reworks of classical pieces though, just a fusion of classical with electronica.
