Look at this. You can see him start to mime to the beat on his 'virus' at about 1:08, but then he fucks off from it at about 1:52. Still the exact same sounds are playing.

Then at 2:22 you start to hear extra sounds he's playing from another keyboard. He later realizes how far out of tune he's in and gives up on that too.

I saw this a while ago and nearly posted it here. When I heard this recorded from Milton Keynes I thought he played those cool 'growling' sounds himself, see 1:42 - 2:00. Seems like they were already done in the studio. Sometimes I'm beginning to think can Liam even play the synths that good. He doesn't play any of the main riffs from his tunes and often those tiny sounds he's adding are out of key and he slips his fingers to wrong notes too. Heck, even I can play that Weather Experience main lead by just listening to the sounds and finding the right keys on my toy synth. It's not that hard! I don't want to get this conversation too sidetracked to Pendulum, but Rob Swire does play all the leads live with his synths. I'd be pleased to hear Liam playing some of the leads live himself too. The additional bleeps are just jamming on top of the tune and not really 'proper' synth playing. I wouldn't want to hear Liam's just one of those who can't really play the piano but can compose tracks with laptops (like me lol).

What comes to Weather Experience, being played actual "live" or not, I'd still like to hear it in the set when I'm going to see them At the concert it's the feeling that matters when you hear the track, but now judging his ways based on Youtubes it really makes us all confused...

Going off topic but following on from a lot of posts asking what Master H actually does live. Take a look! Tracks are playing but Liam & Keith are just looking at the Mac! It would appear that it is a case of just hitting the space bar on the mac and hit the old synth for visual effects! Cmon Liam get back to the old days mate!

I'm glad more and more people are talking about this. At first I thought I was gonna get flamed by people refusing to believe it. From that 'Club Show 08' video, we can almost conclude that Liam doesn't really trigger samples/sections anymore. Let's get to the bottom of this

BTW, this doesn't mean The Prodigy isn't my favourite band anymore I just really want to know what he actually does live.

Hmm, maybe it is not that simple as some people think,
perhaps Liam controling music via midi ? i mean every single knob at virus, and other synth doing somethini in ableton ?
you know, volume, bass level, live efects, echo, reverb, chorus, dont know, it can be alot of posibilities. Maybe Liam really plays live, i mean He does arrangement from the blocks.. hard to say, but i believe he is very creative.
Besides I saw few shows myself, and i tell U :U can't hear all sounds that Liam plays at youtube!!
In my opinion He plays Quite much really.
But topic is what i really dislike
so i hate fact they didnt play gig every week in my country (-; cause i am bass addict, and there is simply nothing better than 10 tones of bass equipment shaking earth, that they have live

Liam does play everything live, he told me.

It's actually Maxim who's guilty of miming to pre-recorded MCing. Also Keith's been known to use a lookalike on stage when he can't be bothered to go on.

I remember another thread was talking about this, and many times (if not all) the Virus wasn't plugged into anything other than power. No audio out, Midi, USB :/

Anyways this thread was done out of pure curiosity, it's natural to want to know this sorta stuff, and it probably helps Liam a bit to see a thread like this instead of the usual 'COME TO [X]! WE LOVE YOU HUEHUE'

You can clearly see midi cable are plugged into midi on virus. If someone not really know technicall specifications of this synth,
please read user manual of midi function of virus ti polar. You may be AMAZED how MANY OF FUNCTIONS Liam could do (-;

Iv noticed that... When i saw them in Madrid in December '09 Keith wasnt on stage. I think it was the Keith double from the BGAT video.
And also at the southend gig i was right at the front and i noticed Liam didnt even have a keyboard as part of his set up.... He had a xylophone.

Well that's from a BBC Radio live thing, I just remember this thread where there's no midi on stage.

I don't think you need to read the Virus' manual to know what midi can do though Same as any synth, midi controller, or even any pc hardware.
I don't know what it's for. Showing off?
I also notice his Moog Voyager on stage which is sexual...such a waste.

I dont like the name 'The Prodigy' It's too biblical and religious and should be banned from now. The prodigy is a singular noun not a plural, therefore the group should be called The Prodigies, that's Essex for you

Yeah that midi plugged in virus was from the 2005 Zane Lowe show they did. they did a couple of tunes the way they perform them live but without an audience.

I did a little search through the internet and found a quote from this website: http://www.theprodigy.info/equipment/ :

In 2009 Liam was a bit angry and explained in his blog what he is doing live: "let me explain to the dicks out there who r apparently confused about what i do live. i got two apple mac laptops running ableton bak to bak. with ableton u can trigger audio in any way at any time.the carcuss of the tunes run from the laptops with maybe some of the keyboard parts -samples missing that i play live.most guitars r taken off and rob plays them.ableton is basically about triggering parts of the songs and thats why the set is different everytime. there is no bakup but the chance of both computers goin down is slim.whoever that tit was who said it was a cd with shouting over is a prick and i find that insulting. bye bye"

However, this quote is not from 2009. I remember it from 2004 and it probably was the case back then. In 2011 it's pretty obvious that the guitars are played from the laptops (Their Law for example) and Rob plays over them. And from the weather experience video we saw, no he does not trigger the samples.

He has said before that it is impossible to play completely live. I know he doesn't do as much as he would back then but the 2 live shows i went to were brilliant regardless if he played live or not. As long as he doesn't lose it in the studio then i don't mind what liam does.
