at first i thought he didn't do much on the virus. but after watching a few more vids i can see that he does a lot. he jams over the tune which works really well in breathe and warriors dance.

At least they've released the bloody thing, God knows there's been enough people ranting about the wait.

It may not be perfect but it's on it's way and we'll all enjoy showing it to our grandkids, who will tell us it's shit and that their taste in music is much better.

I actually quite like Keith's vocals, although I like stuff like The Jam and The Sexy Pistols too which is obviously where he's drawing inspiration from.

For me, it would have to be Liam live. He does SOME cool things on his synths, but really he isn't a live musician. Sometimes you can see him literally spazzing out on those keyboards but there is ZERO sound coming from them. I don't get it.

It seems quite a big part of the thread is about Liam being dancing instead playing live. I've done a lot of Prodigy remixes and I play live my own tunes within my own band and I can tell one specific thing on the subject. The Prodigy music is very monolithic. It's very hard to add something or distort something and don't ruin the track. Last time we played at The Prodigy Jubilee Fest we tried to use extra hardware to put something in the live but it didn't really work. Unlike The Chemical Brothers stuff for example where you can squeeze and rearrange you just can't touch The Prodigy music. It sounds wrong when you apply a fx or alternate the sounds. Probably it's because the Prodigy material is based on samples instead effects or clean synth lines. There is lot of DIY stuff how to sounds like the Prodigy, but all the crap sounds like a parody in end of the day. I guess Liam just prefer to be accurate with live jamming to keep people happy.

Quite good explanation this time! Yeah, Chemical Brothers do very much effect and modulation stuff live and it suits their music because they have always been more psychedelic than The Prodigy. We are here saying Liam should do more but then after all we wouldn't want to hear the good old Prodigy tunes with extra filtering and samples chopped up and lagged in a Dj type of manner. As far as the tunes sound good and the beats keep coming when I'm at a gig, it's ok!

When I mention Liam's lack of live input I'm not referring to effects or modulating, but simply playing parts of the song.
Is it that hard to slice a sample (say the breathe guitar, TMTTH intro, WOF outlander piano sample) to seperate keys?

Not really, it can be done and sound perfect in 5 seconds and could be played live...
Sample triggering, he used to do it (as mentioned before) in the 90's and sound excellent, nothings stopping him from doing it now other than wanting less work to do on stage. Does it affect the music? No. Does it make him look a bit silly spazzing out on silent keys? Sure.

I understood you right, effect or modulating is an examples. Monolithic mean you better do nothing. Separate keys worked for Poison and small links like Benny Blanco, but it surly won't work for any track from IMD or AONO. Of course, simple playing of the parts can be done in Ableton easy, but you won't hear any difference with the originals. Liam's rarely clicking mouse at stage doesn't look cool neither.

Yes, it worked in 90s because Liam used a lot hardware in the studio. He brought some element from studio to live. But time changed a lot in his manner of work in studio and live. Personally, I don't like the way the Prodigy sounds like nowadays. I'd prefer oldschool dark and sampled material instead catchy IMD melodies and vocals. Liam has been very limited by thinking yourself how's the Prodigy should sounds like. A lot of tracks 1998-2002 were thrown to trashcan. I'm sure it was full album we probably won't hear. Well, I still won't blame Liam. It's his choice how to make and play music. He's got a lot of support to do anything he like. Does he look silly? Well, the gigs are full of people don't care. Most DJs plays their set from CD, from one CD, just pressing play. In Russia at least. And people pays for that shit if the name of DJ is known. The crowd is silly.

The Prodigy's playing in Moscow at 28th may this. Can I go to the gig? Yes, but I won't go. Of course I'll be playing at the after-party this night. But the reason I won't go to the Prodigy anyway is typed above.

Have we really come to the conclusion that his Virus or whatever isn't even hooked up? I mean, who am I to say having never been to a gig but really, does that seem like something plausible?
