TOPIC: My girlfriends No good for me...

My girlfriends No good for me... 2 years, 1 month ago #56291

Me and my girlfriend were and generally do have an on going stupid argument about music, she's really ignorant in my opinion when it comes to electronic/Dance music. We were having a discussion when i put on "No Good" and she said.. and i quote.. (All he's doing is pushing buttons, it involves no skill) i know... INSANE! as i just have a large interest in electronic music but not much knowledge on the production i was wondering if anyone could help me get my point across, i'm aware of the complexities and the many layers of practically all the tracks on Jilted but want to know more about how they would have been put together at that time, both to educate me, and my retard cheers!

And if you like that he has another on Smack My Bitch Up.

Pushing buttons? Sure, in the same way Hendrix was just plucking strings

What i did to convince a friend (not boyfriend )

Look at Liam's imagination...it's something beyond normal.
Also consider the hardware he used back then to make this tunes...

When you are out of space, you must break & enter...walking through mindfields and following medusas path...then the warriors should dance and invaders will die.

Cheers for that, yeah the Hendrix thing is very true, i want to try and get her to understand that being an electronic artist is more like being a composer in some respects than an musician who plays instruments, of course when he's live it's a different story but it's hard to understand for someone with no knowledge hearing a track like voodoo people and knowing how much effort goes in to actually making the track, cheers anyway

i have the same problem with my gf, she loves music, but hates electronic music, as she does not consider it music because its computers and not instruments.... complete bullshit like
then again, her favourite band are Muse, so she can't say much (black holes and revelations was pretty electronic)
plus they're pretty much shite...

My girlfriends favorite band is also muse (Weird) and yeah i know what you mean, but i think she doesn't know how much actual "Electronic" production goes into making a muse album such as black holes, its just annoying how people can even consider that electronic artists aren't as talented as say an electric guitarist

People should hear raw demo's and recordings of their so called 'organic' rock bands.
And I don't just mean modern ones, I mean right back to the 70's...audio production, be it compressors, overdubs or equalizers applies to all styles of music, and rock bands just get off on the fact that since people see them playing an instrument, oooh they must be more talented.

Entire life I've been into rock and metal, but fuck it, the rocker attitude disgust me.

People need to see the recording studios, the sound engineers and piles of scary electronic equipment that goes into making even rock records sound right.
Muse records sound clean, but without all that precious and expensive production and engineering, it'd be a fucking mess.
Live shows undergo it too of course, but the sound engineer is a man with no name.

I guess even with my previous open comments on Liam's lesser input these days he's more honest than the them!
At least electronic music is saying 'Yeah, I'm processed electronically, who gives a fuck. It's all to make it sound good, bitch' and not the rocker's 'Hey man, I'm playing a guitar. It has soul, none of your soulless buttons man'...

Well guess what, fuckface? Tell that to the man behind the live mixing desk making sure you don't sound like a fucking car crash.

Matt Bellamy is a genius he's in the same league as Howlett in terms of writing consistant challnging high quality music. Some of Muse's songs are just as complex as a prodge track.

Yes definitely Martinstatic, it's annoying when people just look past the role of the producers or even what some DJ's can do, a lot of "DJs"are shite and extremely repetitive in their methods of production but i think people need to understand that mixing equipment is an instrument just like any other that takes just as long to learn and a lifetime to master.
