TOPIC: Liam's live DJ-ing

Liam's live DJ-ing 3 years ago #46953

When was Liam's last DJ-ing session?

I thought he wasn't DJ-ing live since 94 or so, but now I see that he didn't have a tattoo on the left hand in Phoenix festival 1996, but he did have it on this picture: http://img.youtube.com/vi/Ihyk2tAhzK0/0.jpg which proves he DJ-ed after 1996.

I think his last DJ session was that Resolution party on New Years Eve in 2000. Neko reported all his DJsets back then. Next year Prodigy started to play live again so no more sets after that, I guess.

And the picture you've posted bytad, that's from his set in Fabric, in 2000. Both of these sets were also recorded btw (but the audio quality is not the best though)

06.06.99 Dublin - RedBox
Bankholiday - event in small club with Liam Howlett as 'Headliner' next to Darren Emerson, James Lavelle and more. Keith Flint is just dancing in the crowd. The set contains extracts from Dirtchamber.

.
19.06.99 Leeds - Gatecrasher
Huge Outdoor summer festival of the famous Gatecrasher club. Liam plays in the smaller SYAM arena, just before Goldie. The tent is quite small. At this event almost no Dirtchamber is played. The set is very different from Dublin.

24.07.99

Bedfortshire - Bug Jam VW festival
A weird VW festival. Liam headlines the HipHop stage on saturday evening. Keith Flint, once again, is also present, a Red Bull tent is burning. In my opinion by far the best DJ set of Liam by now.

.
04.09.99 Edinburgh - Homelands Festival
Homelands Festival is a big all-night openair festival with various dance acts such as the Chemical Brothers, Breakbeat Era etc. Liam has big technical problems and his set doesn't come out as good as expected and is only 60 instaed of 90 minutes.

.
25.09.99 Ireland - Homelands
At Homelands Festival in Ireland Liam has to fight with the rain which comes through the tent, but he manges to play a brilliant set and gets the very crowded 'home' arena dancing for more than 1,5 hours!

.
19.11.99 London - Fabric
Liams last DJ date this year is in Londons new superclub the 'FABRIC'. Liam plays a proper set of Hip Hop, dance, reggea and Sex Pistols!

.
21.07.00 London - Fabric
Liam's first and so far only DJ date this year, again at Fabric in London. He plays a cool set but 'surprises' us with some RnB tracks. The set is also attended by Leeroy Thornhill and Keith Flint.

.
28.11.00 London - Madonna gig
Liam Howlett DJing at Madonna's Music Industry only gig at Brixton Academy in London. Some tickets went for £1000, neko was there for you anyway!

.
16.12.00 Bristol - Massive Attack x-mas party
Liam Howlett DJing at the fantastic Massive Attack x-mas party along Richard Fearless and James Lavelle. The party takes place at the cool new club The Rock in Bristol.

.
31.12.00 London - Resolution NYE party
Liam Howlett is DJing at this New Years Eve party at Alexandra Palace in London and plays a rather ordinary set without any surprises. Also spotted at the event are Keith Flint, Leeroy Thornhill and Maxim.

I saw him dj a few times during the barron years and he's quite an average DJ as he tended to play the same songs he liked rather than assess what the vibe is of the room.

His worst set was New years eve down ally pally in 2000/01. He had the prime midnight slot and when the moment came to midnight he fucked off to the side of the stage to have his own private celebration with Natalie and other friends leaving the record playing. The whole crowd just were astonished that he fucked off, everyone looked at each other before half halfheartedly shouting 'happy new year' it really was really cringe worthy!

A lovely thank you to Mr. W 30, James Jupiter the 8th, Mrs. 303, Mr. 909, and especially Monsieur Akai 1100 (The Earthbound Crew)

I recall reading many places that he loved DJ'ing, but the hip hop crowd he was with was less accepting of him because he was white (yeah I know, stupid or what), and so he gave in to his mate and went to a rave in London, took acid (and probably e's) and it changed his view of it all. Then he thought 'I can do this'.

I read that in some interviews floating bout the web, mainly early Experience/Jilter-era ones.

Liam's djing has got alot better as the years have gone on.But you got to remember the equipment he had from the early days of rave has changed dramatically over the years.I think personal there is no one better than him at the mo.Until someone step up to the plate. The man's a genius.
