TOPIC: Prodigy - Sampling question

Prodigy - Sampling question 2 years, 1 month ago #55955

We all know Liam pays a bit for rights to certain samples, but what about when playing live?

I was just thinking about the Jaws Fill, surely that's one of the more expensive things to sample, and he didn't even release it (yet).
So when Liam's playing live is sampling a case of anything goes?

Velly good question. It's possible that there are different royalty regulations in place depending on whether someone is using a sample in a published piece of music and gaining revenue from it's use or just using it live. Then again the rights to said sample still belong to someone regardless so I'd have thought the label would have to cough up something somewhere somehow.

I dunno.

Does Jaguar Skills have to pay Lion-o every time he uses the HOOOOOOOO sample?

i think it was definitely a case of anything goes when playing live.. another great example being the sample from the Shining played at the end of Funky Shit back in the mid-90s

however, i have noticed that trend fall into decline in the last decade presumably because of all the recordings of live gigs nowadays that did not exist back then.

definitely a shame in my opinion..as i used to love all those samples/fills. so thanks a million to the idiots who tape gigs on their phones..besides raggametalpunk

Hey guys, I am a big fan of The Prodigy and a beginner music producer, I was wondering who I would contact to get permission to sample parts of their songs, I would pay a percentage of my royalties to them of course, please reply
