TOPIC: What are you currently reading / last book you read?

What are you currently reading / last book you read? 2 years, 7 months ago #51161

I'm currently reading "The Greatest Show On Earth" by Richard Dawkins, all about the evidence for the theory/fact of evolution and rubbishing the religious/creationism/intelligent design mumbo-jumbo. I love his work and TV shows he has done and got hooked after reading "The God Delusion." It's amazing to read about someone who has pondered the same questions I have since I was a kid, but he has gone a lot further into it. Being a degree level educated biologist/toxicologist I find it even more facinating as we both come from similar educational backgrounds, as well as having very similar thoughts about religion. I recommend anyone who hasn't read his work to give it a go. Some of the books are very heavy going, so having a scientific background is helpful, but "TGD" is a great book and a real eye-opener. For instance, >40% of the American population believe in the old testament i.e. the earth is less than 10,000 years old, Noahs flood was real, dinosaurs were around when man was walking the earth etc. Scary shit.

Haha oh my god, same two books right by my side right now, I always had TGD by my side in school last year, especially being in Ireland, got a lot of attention...
Trying to get my mother to read the greatest show now, as it has nice colourful pictures

I remember my theist friend kept saying that 'logically it makes sense to believe in god anyway, cos if you do and you're wrong nothing happens, but if you don't and you're wrong you go to hell'...I then read the chapter in TGD on 'Pascals Wager' to him.

totally agree on what you said wayne. I feel the same thing. I had all these questions on my head and I started not to believe in all those religious sheet when I was a little younger, but this crappy society makes you believe that you have gone mad and you shouldn't question what you've been served and told. Gutted to see my older sister passionate about something that is a creation of greedy people.
I've bought the greatest show on earth, but i did't have the chance to finish it. Will start reading it again this summer when I'll have loads of free time.
read this summer:
The double Helix
Darkly Dreaming Dexter
on the line for next summer:
The God Delusion
The Greatest Show On Earth
The origin Of Species
and the rest Dexter book series

GREAT TOPIC

When one person suffers from a delusion it is called insanity
when many people suffer from a delusion it is called religion

When you are out of space, you must break & enter...walking through mindfields and following medusas path...then the warriors should dance and invaders will die.

Just finished Battle Royale, was great.

Not really a 'read', but browsing a book I picked up a week or so ago that I'm proud to own.
Wasn't cheap either

Erberto Petoia , Wampiry i wilkołaki: źródła, historia, legendy od antyku do współczesności.
Something about vampires and werewolves, but it is not fantasy book - it's historical.
