Was in Dublin today and went into an old record store and noticed the tiny soundtrack section I'd never seen before.
They only had about 5 soundtracks, and the two that caught my eye were Apocalypse Now and Once Upon A Time In The West.

Shoulda went for both, but fuck it, I'm delighted. Ennio Morricone finally in my hands on vinyl.

Nice one mate. This is one of my pride and joys. Only released in Japan in 1977, I managed to get one in mint, unplayed condition (Obi strip and insert present). This only comes out on very special occasions as I would be very lucky to replace it, nigh on impossible in this condition (it doesn't even seem to be on Discogs, and trust me, I've searched!). It is my favourite piece of instrumental music. I did actually include some footage on the video I made for The Big Gun Down as a little nod to Ennio, but unfortunately no-one picked up on it

Unfortunately no-one has uploaded a decent HQ version, but just imagine this in gorgeous analogue through a fat sound system:

EDIT: I just ripped it from my vinyl via SPDIF. I don't like playing this even though I love it as it is too valuable, so don't say I don't do nuffink for you lot! WATCH IN 1080P, OR I VIL KILL YOU.

Fuck me this track is gorgeous. Ennio's best work in my opinion, from a fantastic film: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orca_%28film%29

A lovely thank you to Mr. W 30, James Jupiter the 8th, Mrs. 303, Mr. 909, and especially Monsieur Akai 1100 (The Earthbound Crew)

 nice.
Played it loud (and in 1080p), shook room good. I think Hans Zimmers' 'Time' from Inception was influenced by that...he cites Ennio as his idol a lot.

Anyways, wow

I cant say i know alot about Composers or Composed scores (actually i know Fuck all) but that is a very nice piece of music.

I can slightly see where you coming from with saying Time was maybe influenced by that but i dont think Mr Zimmer wouldnt admit to that even if it were true. Personally i prefer Time to what Wayne just uploaded. The Inception score is so good it makes me think about touching myself. I love The Dream is Collapsing from that OST as well but Time is unbelievable. I also really like a piece from The Thin Red Line he did as well, not sue what its called, possibly main theme, its about 10 minutes long and is really good.
Good shout with Orca tho.

And if anyone's interested in Morricone, two of my favourite pieces from him, both worth a good listen are
You've probably heard this one, it's a main theme

I'll give it a listen. Yeah every composer/musician/whatever is influenced by someone, and rarely will you ever hear more than 3 notes in a song that aren't subconsciously lifted from songs they like. Zimmer for me tops this generation, Morricone the last. Good to know he's still alive and kickin it though, tough ol bastard.

Yes Ecstacy Of Gold is orgasmic too

MW2, yeah that was good too. Harry Gregson Williams did the first one (or at least the main theme), and he's the protegé/student of Zimmer, so that's interesting to see. I'm not going to go into Gregsons work on MGS though Thread can't handle it all

Yeah you are right, thanks for the info
I haven't "studied" Zimmer or Gregson so much but i liked more the soundtrack of the first one.
Maybe because i like it more as a whole game...anyways i listen to all with the same joy

People said I'm way off for comparing these two, but it can't be a coincidence that once upon a time in the west is Zimmers fav soundtrack and...well tell me if you hear it too
It's most obvious if you listen to the first till about the 11 second mark then switch over to Ennio, easier to hear the waltz backing

Zimmer

Ennio

I think it's clear enough that Zimmer's has influences from Ennio's.

Good to see Ennio and co getting some love on here - I often think I'm the only one who gives a shit about this sort of stuff so I'm really pleased to see others sharing the knowledge!
